In response to an overwhelming amount of support from the site's users (that's you guys, thanks) I have created a subscription option. Note that Egoiste is still free to use, you don't get anything extra for subscribing, except these subscriptions are what will keep the site alive. From September I start a PGCE which means my finances are going to be extremely tight and the site will have to go down at some point if I do not get enough subscribers.
sometimes has saved the site by covering most of what I already owed our server host having been unemployed for the last year. But that's not sustainable. It's going to take 15 people giving £2.50 per month to keep the site going (that's accounting for server costs and PayPal fees).
So there that is. The same button is also in the Donations Box. If you give up one pint of beer a month, Egoiste will live on for as long as we want it to.
Ethically I cannot make any profit out of this site as the content is provided by its users and by James, so as soon as I reach 15 subscribers I will remove the donations box.
If you wish to be thanked publicly for your contribution to the site, please mention it and I'll find a way to do that. I've previously kept most contributions anonymous just to be on the safe side because I can understand some people not wanting their philanthropy to be on public record, but if you're okay with being thanked then say so and I'd like to do that.
If you wish to contribute more than £2.50 per month please let me know and I'll create a subscription option to suit you, but once the hosting costs are paid I'll stop accepting new subscriptions.
I'm not around much right now what with writing lots of songs and preparing for the start of a PGCE in September. Got a holiday at some point as well.
Anyway, sometimes has saved the site. Everyone buy him a pint. You get this site because he gave a big lump sum that was enough to keep my server host happy for the time being.
That's not sustainable so I need to sort out some form of regular income from a few people (15 people giving £2.50 a month or something). Best thing to do is send me a message if you're willing to do that and I'll divide the actual server cost between the actual number of people who are willing and able to contribute regularly.
I'm very careful not to make any money out of this site, but costs do need to be covered. If a bunch of people get in touch and I divide the monthly cost between them (and myself) then that's the safest way.
Thanks for hanging around, thanks for your support, and massive thanks to sometimes for keeping us going.
The room was moving in an unpredictable way, much in thesame way as it does when you’ve been drinking the previous night and wake upwhile still drunk.I had been drinking, but that wasn’t it.As I lifted my headand promptly banged it on the plastic ceiling, everything became clear.I was hung over, and on a boat.
To explain, James, in their infinite “let’s make things asawkward for our fans as possible” wisdom had decided to quite rudely schedule acouple of gigs right when I was on holiday. The gits.Specifically, they hadscheduled two gigs with a special, brand-spanking-new setlist of unreleasedmaterial, in London, September, 2007, around dinner time.In James terms it was big, so big that I hadto cut short my stay in Holland and drive all the way back.My plan was as simple as a really simplething: do it in one day. This was thatday, and the following is the true (and only slightly exaggerated) account.
I have to admit to having been a bit lazy in updating the site of late. The recent tour has been finishing off and James are... somewhere. Anywhere. They move around a lot. Anyway, I've added the promo video for the December Tour to the front page and published a few articles that were hanging around but not been seen to.
