The End

Hi, all.

I'm afraid Egoiste will be pulled offline at the end of this month. You have until then to grab whatever you need and move on.

Click the handy "read more" link if you want the reasoning behind this decision.

This isn't because of anything you or the rest of the online James community have done, I know I don't get on with a lot of you but that has never stopped me giving you free stuff at my own expense (bunch of ingrates). It's also nothing to do with the band, I've had no contact from them and that is entirely to their credit; the fact that they let us do this is nothing short of remarkable and a testament to their willingness for their music to be heard rather than it being all about the money.

This, however, is all about the money.

Part of the reason Egoiste is on the server it's on is because I know what I can get away with; Egoiste deals primarily in bootlegs which, whether legal or not, are the sort of thing to worry most server hosts. The downside to this server is that it costs a fair bit of money each month and I simply don't have it. I lost my job about a year ago and since then I have tried to keep up with payments but generally failed quite miserably.

What this means is that I'm currently around £400 in arrears to my server host. Naturally I can't blame you guys for that, I'm quite good at mismanaging my money and getting into debt anyway, but there is no way I can hope to clear that debt while paying (or attempting to pay) the monthly fee.

I have a new server host but they are strict about potential copyright infringement and, since there are other services I need to run on that server, I can't take the risk. Egoiste could potentially live again without the repository but I doubt anybody would be interested enough for it to be worth my time.

Many thanks to everybody who has contributed to this site because you have made it wonderful, particularly Honest Joe for the logo, Pooka for taking on most of the day to day admin duties, and Alex Carter for some of the best written and most interesting articles I've ever read. Also anybody who has posted music, photos and articles to the site, you have selflessly given something of yourselves to give enjoyment to others and I thank you.

Finally a couple of requests for help. If anyone has access to a server with a fast connection, at least 10GB of spare storage, PHP support, a MySQL database and no restrictions on content, let me know and you are welcome to take over the hosting of Egoiste. Additionally, although my debt is my fault, I would appreciate any spare change through the Donations Box .

Also if anyone is interested in this site staying alive without the respository then please let me know in the comments. The repository has to go, that much is clear, but the rest of Egoiste could live on if there is enough interest. It'd be a lot of work for me to move it to the new server but I'll do it if you want.

Please go around this site and read a few articles, there are some great quality ones there and it'd be a shame for them not to be read. Even if you just stop by for the repository, go take a look around. You may be pleasantly surprised.

I'll be in the chat room if anyone wants me.

Thanks for visiting.

What if we all payed a subscription fee?
would it maybe also help keep the legal stuff/repository intact. I do appreciate this site, and your kindness for paying money out of your own pocket, to please us james' fans.I do believe there is enough fans to help pay for this bill- and keep Egoiste.. :cry

OK, what does it cost for a year? I'll sort it.
but I need somebody to run it. I'll just put up the cash. No help, no cash.
OK?
Mail me.

Idea: New Egoiste, a much smaller site whose purpose is to share James covers by people. I like covers.

If switching to a membership site could stop the bleeding then please try it. No words can express my excitement for finding 'Your Story' here!

Thanks for the shout out. I'll see if I can bung some money your way for the server costs.

Hopefully the site can live on in some capacity. Maybe I can even help out in running it (I don't have anything better to do).

Newsflash

I have to admit to having been a bit lazy in updating the site of late. The recent tour has been finishing off and James are... somewhere. Anywhere. They move around a lot. Anyway, I've added the promo video for the December Tour to the front page and published a few articles that were hanging around but not been seen to.
